Dear Readers,

We have come up with the May 2023 edition of the NELTA ELT Forum. We hope you will appreciate our effort this time, too, as before. We would love to hear from you if there is any issue regarding this edition. We always respect your invaluable suggestions regarding the articles published in this e-zine. 

This online journal of NELTA serves as a platform for teachers, researchers, and all interested scholars who would like to share their experiences, research findings, reflections, and much more. We hope that this collection of scholarly articles offers invaluable insights into effective pedagogical practices, innovative teaching methodologies, and the challenges faced by English language teachers in their classrooms. By publishing experience-based articles, research papers, and reflective pieces, NELTA ELT Forum aims to empower teachers to tap into their expertise and contribute to the collective knowledge of the teaching  profession. It encourages educators to reflect on their teaching journeys, critically evaluate their practices, and explore new avenues for professional growth.

We believe that our effort serves as a catalyst to create a community of English teachers dedicated to excellence in education. By incorporating reflective and interactive techniques into the rich content of the journal, we hope we will grow as more effective educators, transforming ELT classrooms and shaping the future of English education in Nepal. 

As always, we sincerely hope that you will read this edition of the NELTA ELT Forum and offer us your insightful and innovative inputs which we may include in future issues. We sincerely promise to you to openly accept your recommendations for enhancing the quality of your reputed academic e-zine. 

The present issue includes reflections, practical teaching ideas, review on  technology and learner autonomy, and research articles.

In Retrospection: My Reflections and Takeaways from TESOL by Dr. Nabraj Neupane reveals the reflections from Pokhara to Portland, emphasizes the takeaways from TESOL and  encourages the audiences to share their learning as a part of professional growth. 

Some Reflections from an English Language Teacher’s Diary by Dr. Sumera Umrani highlights her reflections as a teacher and teacher trainer from her long experience of teaching, observation, and research. This reflective diary shares the significance of diary keeping for continuous professional development for English language teachers and teacher educators. 

Furthermore, Mr. Gopal Prasad Bashyal in his write-up Practical Teaching Idea: Teaching English Communicatively in EFL Context focuses on the activities for enhancing communicative skills and emphasizes on increasing the opportunity for students to communicate in more meaningful ways.

Mr. Rajendra Pantha in his review article on Smartphones Promoting Learner Autonomy reveals that smartphones enable learners to acquire learning and innovation skills. This article further highlights the importance of integrating technology to increase learners’ autonomy and innovation in the teaching and learning process. 

Mr. Ramchandra Pokhrel in his article Eco-Pedagogy: An Ecological Perspective in English Language Classroom sheds light on how eco-pedagogy deals with the protection of the environment, freeing it from societal problems. 

Finally, Mr. Niroj Pudasaini in his article Practices of Selecting ELT Textbooks in Institutional Schools discusses why and how textbooks are selected in institutional schools in Nepal. It further suggests the need to evaluate textbooks before their selection for quality education.  

We strongly believe that our effort will help the readers learn from these write-ups and complete the gaps with their further research and writings in the days to come. We eagerly anticipate your ongoing support and contributions.
