Editorial

Dear Readers,

We are glad to have this opportunity to bring forth this February 2023 issue of the NELTA ELT Forum. We are grateful for the sincere support of all our scholarly authors, dedicated reviewers, and encouraging readers. Without you all, our efforts would not have been fruitful and turned into reality.

As usual, we genuinely believe that you will go through this issue of the NELTA ELT Forum, and provide us with your invaluable and constructive feedback so that we will be able to include your insights in future issues. We are very conscious that some lapses might have occurred despite our continuous efforts to prevent them and promise you that we are open to your suggestions for improving the quality and credibility of your favorite scholarly e-zine of NELTA.

The present issue includes an interview, a literature review article, a review article, teaching tips, and research articles.

In his interview with Mr. Kamal Raj Lamsal, the Editor-in-Chief of NELTA ELT Forum, Dr. Karna Rana, assistant professor of ICT and e-learning and program coordinator of M. Phil in English Education at Nepal Open University, has expressed his views on “ICT and E-learning in Nepal: Latest Iteration and Opportunities”. Dr. Rana elaborates on the growing use and importance of ICT and E-learning in language teaching.

Mr. Hom Raj Khadka in his review article “Web Tools to Engage Students and Teachers in Learning Activities” explores Web-based tools for teaching and learning activities. His article highlights the Web technologies that can be used to engage students and promote their learning.

Further, Mr. Hiranya Lal Lamsal, in his observation of “Literature in Language Teaching: Perceptions of Secondary English Teachers“, explores the perceptions of English language teachers towards literature. He finds that the majority of language teachers appreciate the benefits and effectiveness of literature in the language classroom.

In his research article “Parents’ Perspectives on the Importance of the English Language“, Mr. Mahesh Singh Saud explores how parents perceive English as a language and why. He discusses why most parents give more importance to English than their native language.

Next, Mr. Shunil Rayamajhi in his review article ‘English, Literacy and Power: A Literature Review’ studies the existing literature about the English language as an integral part of literacy and its hegemonic power on different sectors of society in the present context and brings forth the conclusion that the power of English is unavoidable in the present context.

Finally, Ms. Samikshya Bidari brings some effective vocabulary teaching tips in her article “Warm-up Activities to Enhance Vocabulary Learning.” She elaborates the procedures of using ‘Antakshari’ to enrich the English vocabulary of learners.

This way, we are much hopeful that this issue has been a further step towards the ladder of professional development for everybody interested and involved in English language teaching and learning activities in Nepal and abroad. Thank you all once again for your significant contributions in supporting NELTA ELT Forum’s progress in its journey of documenting various trends and issues of English Language Teaching in Nepal.

We are convinced that our efforts will be supportive to all to learn and fill up the gaps with further research and writing. We look forward to your continuous support and contribution.

Let’s grow professionally together!
