Editorial

Dear colleagues,

We welcome you to the October-November issue of NELTA ELT Forum 2020, and take pleasure to present this issue consisting of a diverse collection of articles on ELT and pedagogy-related topics. In the meantime, we sincerely extend our gratitude to the contributors while enjoying an immense support from them. This issue focuses on the perspectives of five authors where we have included ideas from classroom practices, reflections, and teaching-learning experiences to quench the learning thirst of English teachers.

In the first article ‘Writing Meaningfully: Mitho Lekhai, Dr. Tom Robertson (Tom Sir) shares his own experience of learning to write while also focusing on his practices of teaching writing. He offers some online tools about writing and inspires both students and teachers to work hard in sharpening their writing skills. Tom sir expects to have a conversation with other practitioners on developing academic writing. The next article by Prabha Khadka reviews the novel ‘The God of Small Things’. It is based on the analysis of human behavior and its effects on children’s wellbeing. The article discusses the experience of the victimized children after being exposed to overwhelming incidents leading to their emotional, behavioral, and educational journey. In his article ‘Writing and Teaching Poetry in Foreign Language’, Rishi Ram Paudyal explores the dimension of poetry, presenting a sample lesson with a poem and activities on how poetry in English can be discussed in the classrooms.

The next article ‘Becoming an Academic Writer’ by Gobinda Puri portrays his reflective journey of developing himself as a writer. Particularly, he presents his struggle as an aspiring academic writer through reading, writing, and sharing his ideas among peers and ELT practitioners. Accordingly, Hiralal Kapar, in ‘A Novice Teacher’s Experience of Entering into Teaching Profession’, shares some unique vignettes of his entry into teaching profession. He shows his reflection on the behavior of academic institutions that only seek for years of experience in candidates, overlooking many hidden attributes required in a good teacher.

Recalling a widely circulated statement from Francis Bacon, “[r]eading maketh a full man; conference a ready man; and writing an exact man”, we again thank the authors and reviewers for their invaluable contributions to this issue of NELTA ELT Forum, and expect similar support in the coming days. Happy Reading!!!
